If you guys & girls get a chance to find these 4 episodes of "Kevin McCloud's Man Made Home" via torrent I'd recommend them.

more info here: http://www.channel4.com/programmes/kevin-mcclouds-man-made-home

From splitting logs with explosives to a reclining chair made from an old tractor & hand making glass windows it has it all.

I liked his stuff on Grand Designs. But he really dropped the ball on that community project he got behind. Yeah ..we only see what the camera's let us but there was a fair bit of failure in that project . It worked eventually. And he did eat some humble pie

It so reminds me of the difference between Architects and Carpenters.

The bit where he goes around and checks progress and finds the doors in the dunnies don't work .. well why the fuck does his expert design team not pick that up in all their wonderful 3D mockups. To see arty farty people in a million dollar office pushing drawings around ... that miss the basics... makes me vomit.

But no-one wants to listen to a crusty old builder who is actually going to make the paper and crayons into a living space.

I love the wonderful concepts. They inspire me no end. But in his world everything runs over time .. over budget and seems lacking a real grounding.

A bit like Top Gear going to Blue Ridge Parkway to find the speed limit is 45 mph and they are in an AMG SLS 6.3 , a Ferrari 458 Italia and a Porchse 911 GT R3.

Ask anybody who has taken on significant building projects with their own money

Fucking architects.

Some of this semesters assignments have been pushed back because the laser cutters and cnc routers are tied up with fucking architects cutting little pieces of cardboard to make their models.

It works for me though, I rearely use the fancy machines so just have more time to make things in my shed :)

Dent, I've only watched 1/2 of his urban housing project so far thanks for the spoiler!

Just watched Grand Designs AU, episode 1 series 3, It seems the architects came in above expectation on this one.

Kevin's shed project is a is a bit of a wank as 99% of people wouldn't spend the volume of money he did but it was fun.

Oh ye of little faith. The soft hands . Not wearing the daily claret. The cursory glance to the plans that makes the comics reality. The transmogrification from drawing to structure... that tiny... insignificant link between a tent and a castle.

The man with the nailbag on.. is the man who builds .. It is what happens that matters .. not who gets the credit

Seriously?

Smoko is the morning (or afternoon) tea break and/or the food that you consume.

Best site for ebook torrents before it went down.

Mick

A little while back a woman led a campaign to have the traditional ... mid morning .. smoko .. changed because of the reference to cigarettes .

Smoking is not allowed on worksites anyway. Ok some more discreet sites or whatever.. you might get away with having a durrie with a shovel in your hand well away from the smoko table.

It is smoko . The only other name .. apart from "morning tea" which is written in the awards.....

Other one is Little Lunch.

I love the 65 yo Chippie on the roof running the build ... drops his mailbag... "Little lunch boys!!!!"

Sadly the demon was the best site overall. Books, Tv shows, applications, movies and no porn, so safe to allow the wife to peruse.

Major, Torrentday is invite only, any chance of one?

I enjoyed the show, particularly that Kevin was incompetent at anything he tried doing and outsourced all of the work to a very diverse range of skilled lackies.

He was good at fishing things out of sewers and picking up Lion crap but pretty failed to produce anything by himself, even in the shit production (for home made methane) he had to get help.

If you only have time to watch only one episode, then check out the one with the lounger chair, an amazing creation by "The rag and bone man (http://theragandboneman.blogspot.co.uk/2012/09/man-made-home.html)".
