    What model Toshiba Satellite?

You don't have a setup disk 'cos you were supposed to make your own recovery disks.

I have some but not all.

OK a salutary lesson to all you blokes.

Why on earth don't you keep proper backups?

I admit I'm more than anal about this stuff, but heck, the much maligned Apple ecosystem has a built in recovery partition, if that fails you can recover via the magic of an internet connection (I don't know how and I don't care, but I know it works), I also keep two current backups (one daily one weekly) using different software. Before it did that I'd make a recovery disk every time the OS was updated.

I did lose a hard drive a couple of years ago (six weeks after putting in the new SSD) and because I was on the road and got slack, lost ten days worth of pics - but the recovery and reinstallation process was a doddle.

This is not me saying "I'm smart", just asking why, knowing that computers fail because they are built to do so, why don't you silly buggers back up?

Good luck with finding a solution Bob, but get a backup when you do eh?

    Cheers,

    P

Unlucky, I chucked them out about 6 months ago.

I have a customer who might have a set, I'll ask them.

Don't get too carried away just yet.

The disk I have seen is in a customer's laptop bag & it is for his old laptop, not his current one.

I have worked on it a couple of times & the last time I wanted the disk for the newer one & he couldn't find it.... guess which disk he dropped off at Gina's work today.

Yup. it is the one for his current laptop & not his old one.

We are off to Brissy for 5 days for Gina's regular scans, if he has another look & finds it, I'll let you know.
