Horse if you're still in the hunt my Stepson will be selling his D70 soon, he's upgrading to a D90. Will come with a Nikon 70-300 lens (Cheaper version not the VR) a memory card and a small camera bag. Will be asking around $500.00 + postage.

The D3000 does not have a good writeup.

This is one review, seems it is compact for little hands but if you have bear paws like me it is a bit difficult to use, also the card door is flimsy.
Lots of on board adjustments (which I don't use, slows the camera down and editing suites are better anyway, especially with noise reduction)
$895 for a twin lens looks good but go out and haggle or stop rooting around and just buy a D3![]()

According to dpreview.com, the D3000 was highly recommended. It's an entry level DSLR. It does that very well.
LinkThe D3000 is an excellent camera, and great value at its current street price. What the D3000 conspicuously lacks however, compared to competitive cameras like the Canon EOS 1000D and the recently announced Pentax K-X, is a Live View mode. Nikon is gambling on the assumption that first-time DSLR buyers don't really need Live View, and the success of the D40/D40x and D60 (none of which offered Live View either) could be taken as supporting evidence. However, moving into 2010, Live View is fast becoming a standard feature. It is certainly true that many DSLR owners whose cameras have a Live View function rarely use it, but that doesn't mean that a camera without Live View is just as attractive as one with - especially to someone buying their first DSLR.
In fact, those that are new to a particular hobby are often more likely to fixate on features than those with enough experience to gauge what they actually need. Whether this will seriously impact upon the success of the D3000 or not I don't know, but even without Live View, the D3000 still offers one of the best all-round feature sets of any entry-level DSLR, and is definitely worthy of consideration.
Having said that, if I was in the market for an entry level DSLR I'd go the D5000. Just a little more bang for buck.

Take this Brother, may it serve you well.
As I'm bored shitless at the moment I will contribute to the lens and polarising filter, the cheaper lens rotates at the action end and auto focus will give you a lot of grief trying to set the filter.
My 70-200 is all internal focus and zoom so the filter remains stationary.
Did I mention I'm bored shitless?
