    I wonder why?

Packing up our campsite ( two tents, three kids and their paraphenailia) today in threatening rain, it suddenly occured to me why camping, sans bloke, was so much calmer.
I assume it works the other way

    PS dento, mind stray hooks

I felt for Steve Irwin on saturday

We had ""rocksnsand"out .We had 20 or so livies in the tank and decided to get some more once the tide turned.

I am up on the bow and put the net over a disturbance . Up comes a little stingray...flapping and looking really cranky..I do not want him in the boat and he falls out of the net after a few shakes.

As I set the net for the next throw..I feel a very sharp pain in my palm and claret is flowing out of me.

The barb was left in the net.. fuck they are sharp..it stung like a bitch. All those little turned back points ..this is from a small ray..

When I was up on Orpheus Is. circa 1978 a school group was camped on Phantom Is. and a young girl was running on the beach and got a large one jammed right into her foot. No one could get it out and she had to spend the night with it in.

The next morning they got her over to us where we tried pulling it out with pliers without success ....I'll never forget the look on her face, very stoic but she was obviously in a great deal of pain.

We ended up taking her over to Palm Is. hospital.

They would make a perfect spear head.

There is a giant ray about 2m across that lives around a popular west coast snorkelling spot. Someone ages ago cut it's tail off. Which is a nice thought when it swims past.
Do the ones that lose their barbs grow another one back?

Yep very good fishing between Orpheus and Phantome (or is it fantome make up your mind you're confussing me again) in the deep trench.

The old huts from the Leper colony days were a bit creepy though, I hated going ashore there.

I would still like to know where I was from 79 -83?

I pulled the chart, its Fantome.I spent two days on the beach there with a mate when a fishing comp had one day of beautiful weather then a big southerly buster of 35 knots really fucked us up so we just pulled the boat up and let the tide go out
