Why?

With new video recording devices do we still refer to filming and footage?

For the same reason that capital letters are “Upper Case” and “full size” sensors in cameras are the same size as 35mm ones which after all in film were 70mm cut in half.

So… how many feet long is my 64gb card?

Depends.

How Long is a Chinaman.

But here’s a handy calculator

Cheers!

Wiki has missed quite a few there. DSE’s (Dry Sheep Equivalent) for water or fodder requirements, Cusecs, Cumecs or firkins a fortnight (cubic feet or metres per second) for rates of water flow, miners inch (a measure of gas pressure), and the well-known surveyors’ measure, the mickeyhair (as in “just a mickeyhair to the right”).

When I was at the mountainbike world cup a few months ago I asked the young lass who was shooting video whether she had gotten some good footage. I then had to explain the whole meaning/history behind the term “footage” to her. Didn’t help that English was her 2nd language.
