Dead Computer,

think my hard drive died so i will get another lappy but if anyone has a 2 1/2 hd to suit a L300 Toshiba satellite maybe we can do business.

Thank you very much to Cliff and Russel for their assistance

What sort of drive? Sata?

@wombat, if you don’t have a result before the middle of June let me know - I have one that’d probably do the job, but it’s in Aus and I’m not.

Hope you don’t have to wait that long, but let’s know.

it is a sata.
getting another drive means i will use the old Toshiba lappy to operate my new CNC that i will build soon. The horrible part about CNC is that i will need to brush-up on msdos unless i get a new cnc program - eerrkk

I’ve got a 120gb Solid State Drive if you want. Message me

how do you message in here?

the old dell i picked up had a fresh install of windows 7 pro 64bit on it. yeah i liked xp but this is just as easy to use unlike windows8 and presumably win 10, main thing wrong is it only has 2gb of memory so runs very slow.
but its still better than msdos or cpm etc

Windows 10 is pretty easy to use. They picked the best bits from Win7 and Win8.

Win 10 will struggle to run with 2gb depending on what is running.

Beware of using old operating systems as they are more vulnerable to hacks and aren’t kept up to date with patches. Automatic updates are advisable.

I’m pretty sure MS just patched XP against that latest attack.

MS aren’t doing anything for XP.

Win 7 maybe but not XP.

Rumoured that MS will support Win 7 until some time in 2020.

Yes but it was highly unusual for them to do so. There are many vulnerabilities that are still in XP and will always remain.

Yes, Jan 2020.

Vista is no longer supported.

yeah it is a big (and welcome) change to have an os with automatic updates

Well they did do a security patch for XP.

Yeah, they did, it seems that there are a lot of servers out there that the OS is based on XP & it was the same hole that needed to be plugged.

But you have to be desperate and lucky and not have rebooted the WinXP machine
