Had an appointment at the Nephrology clinic the other day and knew I’d be waiting around in there for an hour or more. I bought a brand new bike recently, an SWM RS650R: https://swmmotorcycles.com.au/rs-650-r/
A bit worried about it getting stolen so I grabbed the disc lock which I rarely use, out of the top case on my old bike. Pulled the key off that bunch and headed off. Got halfway down the range and spotted a storm front coming in but managed to pull into the timber yard at Bunnings before it started to rain properly and I put on my wet weather gear. I rode through a torrential tropical storm but managed to stay mostly dry. Got to the hospital, waited around for well over an hour to be told that my Kidneys seem to be working better than they ever have (68% now instead of the 50% they have been running at for years).
Headed out to the bike and I couldn’t get the disc lock undone. It has a built in alarm which was screaming its head off at me. I looked at the key and realised that somehow I’d managed to lock the unit with the key to the top box of the other bike, but now it didn’t want to unlock.
Called the RACQ. They didn’t know what to do, decided they would tow the bike home for me, but because of the storm there were no tow trucks available in Cairns until the next day and their contractor didn’t have a motorbike dolly anyway, so we would’ve had to lift the bike’s front wheel up to get it onto the truck. In the end they hired a car for me. I managed to get a lift off an old duck who was waiting outside the hospital, her husband, who’s also a motorcyclist, dropped me off at the airport. Picked up rental car, drove home, grabbed correct key, drove back to the airport and Ubered out to the hospital. Finally got home about 4 hours later than I’d originally planned and had had to cancel an arrangement with a mate who was going to meet me at the hardware store to take a heap of bulky stuff home for me.
